{"id":4567,"date":"2014-08-04T20:18:10","date_gmt":"2014-08-04T17:18:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mummila.net\/kommentit\/?p=4567"},"modified":"2014-08-04T20:18:10","modified_gmt":"2014-08-04T17:18:10","slug":"public-directory-xdg_publicshare_dir-created-despite-enabledfalse-in-user-dirs-conf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mummila.net\/kommentit\/2014\/08\/04\/public-directory-xdg_publicshare_dir-created-despite-enabledfalse-in-user-dirs-conf\/","title":{"rendered":"Public directory ($XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR) created despite &#8221;enabled=False&#8221; in user-dirs.conf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve set &#8221;enabled=False&#8221; in my \/etc\/xdg\/user-dirs.conf which, according to comments in that file, and also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freedesktop.org\/wiki\/Software\/xdg-user-dirs\/#settings\">according to the spec<\/a>,\u00a0should stop xdg-user-dirs-update from running at login time and thus also from recreating any missing $XDG_*_DIR directories.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I&#8217;ve commented out the definition of XDG_PUBLICSHARE_DIR in my user&#8217;s ~\/.config\/user-dirs.dirs due to not being able to decide where to point it at for now.<\/p>\n<p>Despite xdg-user-dirs-update being disabled, a directory named &#8221;Public&#8221; reappears in my user&#8217;s home directory at every login. What is causing this and how can I stop the unwanted Public directory from appearing? I&#8217;ve found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bugzilla.redhat.com\/show_bug.cgi?id=711132\">an old Red Hat bug referencing a similar issue<\/a>, but\u00a0it&#8217;s closed without a known fix.<\/p>\n<p>The issue doesn&#8217;t occur for $XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR which I&#8217;ve similarly commented out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite xdg-user-dirs-update being disabled, a directory named &#8221;Public&#8221; appears in my user&#8217;s home directory at every login.
