Back in Novem\u00adber I hap\u00adpe\u00adned to hear about the scan\u00adda\u00adlous events sur\u00adroun\u00adding the ele\u00admen\u00adta\u00adry school of Kori\u00advaa\u00adra<\/span>; appa\u00adrent\u00adly, the children in the school were being ter\u00adro\u00adrized by a deeply reli\u00adgious head\u00admas\u00adter and his fel\u00adlow teac\u00adhers (sum\u00adma\u00adrized in English<\/a> by The Butt Ugly Weblog<\/em><\/a>).I\u2019ve recor\u00added some of the news<\/a> cove\u00adring the issue by Kaleva.plus<\/span><\/a>; so far Fin\u00adnish only, sor\u00adry. I was amazed by not only such events being pos\u00adsible in modern-day Fin\u00adland, but by the fact that the who\u00adle issue see\u00admed to cause not\u00adhing more than a few head\u00adli\u00adnes and some sha\u00adking of heads in dis\u00adbe\u00adlief. #<\/a><\/p>\n

This to me spel\u00adled the children had been seve\u00adre\u00adly brainwas\u00adhed and mani\u00adpu\u00adla\u00adted, thus making any refe\u00adrences to their \u201cliking\u201d their head\u00admas\u00adter not\u00adhing more than expres\u00adsions of deeply roo\u00adted fear of cri\u00adticizing his aut\u00adho\u00adri\u00adty. #<\/a><\/p>\n

And not\u00adhing hap\u00adpe\u00adned. The issue was bounced around by aut\u00adho\u00adri\u00adties, until the report by an inde\u00adpen\u00addent psyc\u00adho\u00adlo\u00adgist, pro\u00adving the children suf\u00adfer from anxie\u00adty and fear, was dis\u00admis\u00adsed by the sta\u00adte pro\u00advincial office of Oulu<\/span>, and P\u00f6y\u00adry<\/span> along with the rest of the school per\u00adson\u00adnel was basical\u00adly clea\u00adred of almost any wrong\u00addoing. #<\/a><\/p>\n

But my peak of tole\u00adrance had alrea\u00addy been reac\u00adhed. I had pos\u00adted my rough idea of what I think of P\u00f6y\u00adry<\/span> and his \u201cmet\u00adhods of upbrin\u00adging\u201d onto my blog, not once but many times. I\u2019d said it straight as well as indi\u00adrect\u00adly. #<\/a><\/p>\n

Then yes\u00adter\u00adday, I got an e-mail from a police officer of the city of Oulu<\/span> police, infor\u00adming of me of an inqui\u00adry for defa\u00adma\u00adtion of cha\u00adrac\u00adter, reques\u00adted by P\u00f6y\u00adry<\/span>. In addi\u00adtion to tel\u00adling me the local (Jyv\u00e4s\u00adky\u00adl\u00e4<\/span>) police would inter\u00adro\u00adga\u00adte me about this, the\u00adre was a demand for the mate\u00adrial regar\u00adding P\u00f6y\u00adry<\/span> to be remo\u00adved from my site. The\u00adre was no rea\u00adson (or a law) given for this<\/strong>, neit\u00adher was the\u00adre any men\u00adtio\u00adning of a court order having been issued (and I haven\u2019t been deli\u00adve\u00adred one), which to my unders\u00adtan\u00adding is requi\u00adred in Fin\u00adland for the police to be able to tell me to do this. #<\/a><\/p>\n

So I asked the police\u00adman for the rea\u00adsons, as well as the speci\u00adfic parts of my site he was refer\u00adring to (since I had writ\u00adten about the issue seve\u00adral times). Today he replied, refer\u00adring to a law which covers .fi-domains. As you can see, mine is .net. And even if it was .fi, as far as I can tell, the law in ques\u00adtion doesn\u2019t entit\u00adle the police to order me to cen\u00adsor my words. #<\/a><\/p>\n

This time he did single out the speci\u00adfic texts I had to remo\u00adve, so I did that, since I guess it\u2019s not a valid rea\u00adson not to do what the police tell you to, even if their rea\u00adsons for tel\u00adling you to do so seem to be full of shit. Whet\u00adher they are, that\u2019s for a hig\u00adher aut\u00adho\u00adri\u00adty to deci\u00adde, and that\u2019s exact\u00adly what Tuo\u00admas Kil\u00adpi<\/span><\/strong>, the edi\u00adtor of anot\u00adher Fin\u00adnish blog and a com\u00adpu\u00adter magazi\u00adne asked them to do (for which I\u2019m very gra\u00adte\u00adful to him). As for me, I\u2019ve reques\u00adted Elect\u00adro\u00adnic Fron\u00adtier Fin\u00adland<\/a> for their com\u00adments on this. #<\/a><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve not yet been to a hea\u00adring, but am expec\u00adting to, since the officer in ques\u00adtion did pho\u00adne me after I had infor\u00admed him of having done the remo\u00advals he\u2019d asked me (he\u2019d found anot\u00adher copy - from his brow\u00adser\u2019s cac\u00adhe), and thus veri\u00adfied him\u00adself as being for real (even though the hea\u00adders and eve\u00adryt\u00adhing see\u00admed to be valid, with e-mail you never know) and having infor\u00admed the local police about the mat\u00adter. #<\/a><\/p>\n
