• Pairs for Windows

After unsuccessfully trying to make Pairs, an AGA Amiga solitaire game, work under Windows using WinUAE, I went looking for native alternatives. I found out this particular variant of Mahjong is called Shisen-Sho. From the Shisen-Sho games listed on Vegard Krog Petersen’s site I tried a few and found the best two for my liking were Shisen-Sho by iBinx (which is free) and Shisen for Java.

  • iMac Core Duo Video Problems

“It seems like some of the new intel iMacs are showing some “Rev A” growing pains. Certain models are showing graphical errors during common tasks. The problem is most apparent when using Apple’s Front Row media browser. The problem renders Front Row is all but unusable due to constant video tearing, random horizontal lines, ghosting, and other graphical artifacts.”

  • PC in a bottle

They used to hide bottles inside books once. Times sure have changed…

“I love to tinker with hardware etc. so I wanted to make something quite unique for a case. I have seen many nice and creative cases before but none of them were made out of a bottle. In November I bought an industrial 3.5” SBC board (with Socket370). For the project I selected a 1.5 litre Ballantine’s bottle for case. That was the proper size and shape for the task at hand.”

  • ShinyShuttle with English Custom Polishing

“This time I’m introducing some really great polishing products from English Custom Polishing. This was the first time that I have ever polished anything so this review/modding article will show you how easy it is to start making your computer components shine. While I’m targeting this ST61G4 XPC from Shuttle it doesn’t mean that these products work only with computer cases.”

  • “Jäsenten käyttöön on otettu uusi tietokantapalvelin. Uusi järjestely vaatii jäsenien käyttämiin www-sovelluksiin pieniä muutoksia. Tähän muutokseen on varattu kaksi viikkoa siirtymäaikaa.

Nykyisen “localhost”-osoitteen tilalle täytyy muuttaa “db1.kapsi.fi” (ilman heittomerkkejä). Helpdesk on laatinut asiasta pikaohjeen, jossa neuvotaan osoitteen muutos www-ohjelmiin.”

Toteutin tämän muutoksen äsken kaikkiin WordPressillä toimiviin blogeihini (pikaohjeen mukaisesti, vaikken sitä siinä vaiheessa vielä ollutkaan lukenut), ja kaikki näyttää toimivan ihan hyvin.
