Solved: middle mouse button, Linux kernel 2.6.7 with Debian patches

@ 12:51

Here's a patch for my braindead Vivanco Mobile Optical mouse to have its middle (wheel) button working again in kernel 2.6.7. This is basically just an applied version of Junji Kanemaru's patch LKML archive I already referred to earlier Ns, back when using 2.6.5.

It's really a bit nasty, since it tells the kernel to decide the mouse has no middle button on it only when the mouse reports it has one button. That is, all mice reporting two (or more) buttons are assumed to have a middle button also, which holds true with my Vivanco (and apparently, so also in Junji's Arvel branded mouse), but obviously not always.

Disclaimer: I don't have any idea how to make kernel patches the right way; I just used diff -u in the kernel source root [1]. Also, like the title says, the patch was not made with the pristine 2.6.7 sources but with the Debian (Sarge) patched ones. Don't know if that makes any difference in this case though. It might or might not. Such a small patch isn't that hard to apply, anyway.
