The case studies show that cost savings of up to nearly 30% are realizable using Open Source. (...) The greatest cost saving opportunities that Soreon Research found are in the adoption of a variety of office applications on work-stations. Soreon's results suggest that, over a 3 year period, a large-scale enterprise with 2,000 seats will save in the region of €525,000 with office applications, €57,000 with servers, €32,000 with content management systems and €21,000 with databases. A specific modeled example is that with a budget of €1,000,000, the use of Open Office instead of MS Office will provide a 20% cost advantage.

What it means suggest is that organisations that are not yet considering Open Source solutions ought to do so in some areas at least.
