The Definitive BIOS Optimization Guide

“In the beginning, this guide consisted of only one page of short and simple explanations of several common BIOS options. Over the years, the explanation of each BIOS option has been fleshed out, improved upon and corrected. And today, it has become a database of over 260 BIOS options. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

Gimp-win-remote won't work

Just a quick note to myself: when Gimp-win-remote won’t work, adding “gimp-2.2.exe” (with the double quotes, although I suppose it would work without them, too) between the “gimp-win-remote.exe” and “%1” in the gimp-win-remote.exe\shell\open\command registry key does the trick. Picked this up from gimpwin-users.

Count to 31 on One Hand

“Forget your abacus? Lose your calculator? Every geek should know how to use binary to count to 31 on one hand. It won’t replace your slide rule, but it’s an attention-getter. If you’re familiar with binary you’ll pick it up quickly.”

I categorized this as being a ‘hack’, considering this is an innovative application of using fingers as an aid to counting.

Hacking's a snap in Legoland

All it took was being open-minded enough to see that their biggest fans weren’t trying to rip them off; they were trying to improve Lego’s products in a way that, just maybe, the company’s own designers hadn’t thought of.”

NES Controller TV Remote

“Ever wanted to control your TV with an old school Nintendo controller? No? Well, I have and now I do. A few weeks ago I picked up an old school Nintendo controller from eBay and began thinking of a project for it – then it hit me! Controlling the basic functions of my TV through a NES pad would not only be awesome, but it would make me one step closer to that darned Captain-N.”

I think that’s a way better use for it than as an optical mouse (via /.).
