Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C and NEC 3540A

Yesterday I went digital. A Terratec Cinergy 1200 DVB-C tv-card I ordered the day before arrived and I installed it successfully.

Initially I had trouble finding any channels with the scanner. After upgrading to the latest beta driver and application software versions (2.2.0.6.0512 at the time of writing) the app allowed changing the QAM to 128, the value used by the local cable company, and the scanner was then able to find all commercial channels but none from Yle.

Then I found a pre-made settings file for the Jyväskylä region (Jyvas, 1 kt) posted by “jan2005” on a Cinergy 1200 discussion thread on DVD Plaza forums, and nothing else was needed: everything (apart from Yle subtitles) now works.

Software meter showing 39 % The app reports the cable signal as being as low as 39 % and the manual says it should be at least 60 % to be acceptable, but so far I haven’t noticed any degradation in picture quality. Could be I’m just not looking for the right things, though, as I’m not used to digital picture quality yet.

Also got me a Dual Layer DVD writer, a NEC 3540A. The silver looks much nicer with the Shuttle front panel than the old (read only) DVD drive’s white face.
