Suomalaista politiikkaa toisin keinoin

“Suojelupoliisi ja keskusrikospoliisi ovat selvittäneet puolueisiin kohdistuneita urkintaepäilyitä viime vuonna. [Ainakin] vihreiden vaalistrategioita ja tietoja puolueen talousasioista on joutunut vääriin käsiin. […]

Epäiltynä tietojen urkinnasta on ollut vasemmistoliiton erään kansanedustajan entinen eduskunta-avustaja. Miehen epäiltiin muun muassa kirjoittautuneen salanimillä erilaisille keskustelu- ja postituslistoille sekä pyrkineen sisään tietojärjestelmiin. Apuna olivat salauksenpurkuohjelmat.”

Tallennusvelvollisuus oikeuteen Irlannissa

[Digital Rights Ireland (DRI) on nostanut] kanteen teletietojen tallennusvelvollisuutta vastaan. Kanteessaan DRI vaatii Irlantia lopettamaan teletietojen tallentamisen ja kieltämään jo kerättyjen tietojen käyttämisen, koska toiminta on Euroopan Ihmisoikeussopimuksen vastaista. Irlanti on tällä hetkellä yksi harvoista maissa Euroopassa, jossa on jo laki teletietojen tallennusvelvollisuudesta.

My system would’ve passed the test otherwise but the graphics adapter (a Radeon 8500) failed:

Wait, don’t tell me… those options wouldn’t just happen to be cards with ATI chipsets on them by any chance? Yep, a Radeon X1300 Pro and a Radeon X1300.

Naturally, I wouldn’t mind getting one of those…

Free WMA to WAV: dbpowerAmp

I normally use BeSweet to convert between audio formats, but it doesn’t do WMA, so I had to find something that can handle it. For some reason almost all of the converters claiming to do this were either shareware or adware-ridden, but dbpowerAmp (via Andrew W) looks like the tool for me. It requires the WMA codec be installed separately and it nagged about the MP3 trial not being activated at least the first time I used it, but apart from that it does the job.
