Tämän takia minusta ei koskaan tullut puhepodcastien kuuntelijaa, tekstissä on paljon helpompi hypätä taaksepäin juuri sen verran kuin tarvii. Ja tekstinkin kanssa minulle käy näin, joskin harvemmin kuin pakkosyöttö-puheen kanssa. Puhe vain vyöryy eteenpäin vaikka huomioni kiinnittyisi muualle, silmien eteneminen tekstissä sentään pysähtyy ajatuksen voimalla heti tarvittaessa.

I’m glad you see things as you do, about her being the failure that she was; you could have been brainwashed to actually believe how she’d have you believe, that it was somehow your fault and not all hers. Then again you probably wouldn’t have survived, and the fact that you have goes to prove that you really are strong as you say.

I think one explanation for the perceived change in your mother’s behavior might be that children start out quite flexible and unquestioning towards their parents, and only gradually start developing their own will and identity. It could be she never was any good in raising up a real person, so you only came in full contact with her deficiency as a parent once you began to manifest personality. When you are very small, you more readily accept anything a parent may force on you no matter how wrong it actually is. It’s only later that you begin to have a sense of entitlement and are more likely to pursue what you feel is right for you, which sets you on a collision course with the parent that can’t deal with a child that is a real person and not just a dummy.

I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about, even if I still, after all three of these videos don’t. It’s as if he’s afraid of coming out of the depths he dwells in this subject, so as not to fool us (or himself?) into thinking it’s actually any simplified analogy he might come up with. I for one just can’t reach what he was getting at, and I think it’s a first for me in Numberphile videos.

Hi Thomas, sure. Yes, the bug is still reproducible in Precise (gimp 2.6.12-1ubuntu1.2), which is what I’m using on my main desktop. But the good news is I can’t reproduce it in VMs running Raring or Saucy (both of which currently have gimp 2.8.4-1ubuntu1), so it looks like it’s been fixed in the 2.8.4 series at the very latest.

Looks like you have to hit the mines right at the top, which kind of makes sense if that’s where the detonator is. But it sure feels like dumb artificial difficulty; they might as well just blow up from enough hits anywhere on the explosive.
