If I caught that correctly, this ”Sam Spade” character referred to the Taco Bell incident occurring ”the day before [Eric’s] death”. Assuming this is true, it would imply that the poster knew the exact day that Eric died, when even the authorities appear to have no such knowledge (due to uncertainty resulting from the state of decomposition). While the poster’s truthfulness in general is questionable, this embedded implication about their knowledge could be a Freudian slip.

Output from procps’ ps with -e only produces the process name, so grepping for ”cli.js start” fails every time. This change adds (POSIX-compliant) -f to all ps calls to get the full command. AWK print parameter is adjusted accordingly where needed.

Issue #1359 resulted in PR #1370, but only addressed the stop: target. The changes here address the rest of the ps calls the same way.

I’m unfamiliar with ThinLinux, but is there a good reason you cannot use your desktop environment’s settings application to adjust display settings? The wiki article is quite old, and while some of it may still be valid, display detection and GUI settings tools have improved over the years. Those tools should be the preferred method of adjusting settings, barring exceptions such as brand new hardware with lacking support.

Great point about the lack of pride in shunning, it really is quite striking now that you’ve articulated it. It stands in contrast to how they do seem to take pride in, say, the blood policy (from an outsider’s POV at least). Both are destructive, yet one is flaunted, while the other is treated like the shameful half-secret that it is.

Downloading the 2018 World Cup videos fails (with geo restriction suggested as the cause, but my IP is in Finland). Some clips (at least this one) can be downloaded, but none of the games I’ve tried so far. They’ve upgraded the streams to 50 fps for the games, though I don’t know this is related.

Urgh, I’d argue that changing this back *is* a regression. The merged menu item has been the default since (at least) 16.04, and now the cognitive load of opening a new tab has suddenly increased: instead of ”new terminal” I now again have to pick the one I want (which is always tabs for me) from two options each time, instead of just the one.

There’s a sort of a reverse Thatcher effect also: have your friend lie down, with the lower part of their face (everything below the eyes) obscured with a piece of paper or something. You then make eye contact with them from above their head so that their face is upside down in your field of view. After a while, your brains starts to think you are face to face with someone without a nose or a mouth, but with a bushy beard (assuming they have hair).

(Discovered this with friends back when we were kids, don’t know if has a designated name.)

Background

I’m using the currently published version of No Title Bar from Gnome Extensions in Ubuntu 18.04 (gnome-shell version 3.28.1-0ubuntu2).

Steps to reproduce

1. log in to desktop
2. start Gnome terminal
3. maximize the terminal window (so that the title bar merges with the activity bar)
4. power the display off, then back on

What happens

The terminal window again has its own title bar.

What I expect to happen

For the terminal window title bar to remain merged with the activity bar.

Further info

Under some circumstances (the specifics of which I haven’t been able to narrow down), when the title bar comes back, it is entirely transparent, so that in place of a title bar you have a see-through hole. Here’s a screenshot, showing how part of Firefox’s UI is visible from behind the terminal window, through where the title bar would be.
