Volunteers record bee biodiversity and discover new species in Pennsylvania
The researchers recruited 26 participants, mostly Master Gardeners, from across Pennsylvania to sample bees after receiving extensive training from Penn State experts. [The] trained participants documented over twice as much biodiversity and novel baseline natural history data as [2233] iNaturalist users.

200,000,000 observations on iNaturalist! · iNaturalist
This week iNaturalist passed another big observation milestone: 200,000,000 verifiable observations! It took iNaturalist 14 years to reach 100 million and just 2 more years to reach 200 million. […] Let’s take a closer look at these observations as 200 dots where each represents 1 million observations.

(Slightly surprising to me that this wasn’t known, or assumed already. Here’s discussion about the paper on the iNaturalist forum.)

When it comes to butterflies, people prefer pretty ones: That’s a problem for scientists.
[Users] underreported many species, particularly those that were difficult to identify and those with light-colored markings on their wings. Behavioral traits, such as butterflies' flight style and height, and traits that make butterflies difficult to photograph, may have affected reporting patterns, the researchers surmise.

If you’re photographing a caterpillar, Kate recommends getting at least three photos: one the top of the caterpillar, one of the side showing all the sets of legs, and a photo of the face (aka head capsule). It’s also really important to note the host plant (or make an observation of the host plant and get it identified on iNat). Even then, she reminds us that not all caterpillars (or adults) can be identified to the species level from photos alone.

Only one observation from Finland currently (AFAICS), an Oxypoda spectabilis.

First Known Photographs of Living Specimens
This project is designed to showcase the first known photographs of living specimens of any species. Note that by ‘first known’ I’m referring to the first known photographs of a species anywhere, not just the first photographs to be submitted to iNaturalist.
