Now, you can see common names in multiple languages! iNaturalist has been translated into 57 languages, but many people want to use the platform in one language while learning common names in another. We’ve recently added functionality to address this, allowing you to experience iNaturalist with multilingual common names.

Astronomers Accidentally Discover Dark Primordial Galaxy
While examining a discrepancy between data from the Nançay Radio Telescope and the Green Bank Telescope (GBT), O’Neil discovered an error, “The GBT was accidentally pointed to the wrong coordinates and found this object. It’s a galaxy made only out of gas—it has no visible stars.”

Study finds Spanish butterflies are better at regulating their body temperature than their British cousins
Butterflies in both countries switch from heat-seeking to heat-avoiding behavior once air temperatures reach approximately 22°C. [British populations depend] more on microclimates for thermoregulation than Catalan populations.

First Known Photographs of Living Specimens
This project is designed to showcase the first known photographs of living specimens of any species. Note that by ‘first known’ I’m referring to the first known photographs of a species anywhere, not just the first photographs to be submitted to iNaturalist.
