Grönlannin jäätikön alta löytyi valtava törmäyskraatteri – Pohjoista pallonpuoliskoa tärisyttänyt kraatteri syntyi ehkä vain 12 000 vuotta sitten
Geologit ovat löytäneet valtavan törmäyskraatterin Grönlannin Hiawathan jäätikön alta. Halkaisijaltaan 31 kilometrin kraatteri syntyi noin kilometrin kokoisen rautameteoriitin törmäyksen voimasta. Kyseessä on ensimmäinen mannerjäätikön alta koskaan paljastunut törmäyskraatteri ja yksi suurimmista koskaan löydetyistä törmäyskraattereista. Se on piilotellut Grönlannin kilometrin paksuisen jäävaipan alla ainakin 12 000 vuotta. Törmäyksen tarkkaa ajankohtaa ei kuitenkaan vielä tiedetä.
